Ramona | Who inspired Flower Enrichment Programming at Twin Root Farm

In the early summer months of 2022, I received a Facebook message from a local woman who came across a post I had made about our flower subscriptions. She purchased a flower subscription with a delivery for her mother who lived at a local senior care center.

This was when I first met Ramona. Ramona is a red headed, spunky, sharp witted lady who loves purple, artwork, flowers and dessert. Little did I know where this weekly flower delivery would lead.

My weekly flower delivery to Ramona soon became the highlight of my week. My family knew that when I was delivering to Ramona that I’d, maybe, be back in an hour. My delivery turned into a visit. Together we talked about each flower, herb and greenery in the bouquet. I found myself kneeling beside Ramona helping her fingers grip the flower stems, feel the petals and noticing the different textures. Smelling each of the sweet scents included in the flowers and greenery. The flowers sparked conversations around the memories of her gardens and the artwork she created. I cherished my delivery each week; actually I think we both cherished our time together.

After the 2022 season was wrapped up, the fields were cleaned up and sleeping under blankets of snow I started to dream. I began to dream about how to bring my experience with Ramona to others in senior living communities. It was in the winter of 2022 that Flower Enrichment Programming was developed. I wrote up descriptions, shared Ramona's story and started making connections with activity directors at local senior living communities.

By the spring of 2023 my calendar began to fill up with Flower Enrichment Programs and the joy of flowers started to be shared through my programming.
